Love this Jig(2011-05-21)
Used this jig to silver solder Moison nagant front sights back on. Got it on perfect.
Defective(2015-07-31)
I purchased one of these jigs several years ago but did not try it out until recently. The spring-loaded plunger was not perpendicular to the base, so it sat at a slight angle of 5-10 degrees. This prevented full downward pressure onto the workpiece and tended to cause slippage. The plunger has a pointed tip which provides for a less secure hold than a flat tip. I suppose a small flat could be ground on it. To prevent sight rotation during soldering, the base needs to be sitting on a flat surface. Since temperatures are around 1000 degrees, a metal table is the only suitable work surface. The barrel needs to be level and secure as well, so a padded vise is advisable. This requires aligning the vise and metal table so the sight and barrel are level with the jig. It's a clever design, so I am returning the jig for replacement. Hopefully the next one will be more square.
