Superb Tool for Bullet-Lands Measurement 2011-03-05
I have M70 & Rem 700 bolt, AR-15 and M1A NRA high power rifles that I have reloaded for extensively over the past 30 years. At Camp Perry in 1995 (or so) I was cleaning my M1A on my truck tailgate because my teammates at the Navy van were hogging the cleaning table when a man walked up and suggested I look at a bent, red anodized tool with an empty cartridge case and SMK 168 loose in its mouth. He had recently got the bend in the tubing to work without crimping the spring cable inside the tube. His demonstration sold me on the device; despite my getting my wallet out while I said, "I'll take that right here, right now" he walked away after saying he hadn't quite got the production process complete. Later I learned his company was Stoney Point and they must have got the process down as I saw the product at various retailers. I've been using them ever since. Hornady saw a good thing too and bought the company to get the tool.
I bought an AR-15 204 Ruger barrel today (March 5, 2011) and must capture the case and comparator in .204. I use the bent version in my bolt and gas guns. If you play just with bolt actions use the straight version; but the bent works in both if you ever get the urge to play on the other side of the tracks. Keep'm in the center!
